7 Steps To Care For Flowers From Auckland

A surprising delivery of beautiful flowers has arrived at your door step in Auckland from that special person in your life. Now you’re only concern is where to place and look after them in your home. Here are 7 tips which will greatly increase the life time of your flowers that have been delivered to your home.

Step 1 – First of all, it’s best to carefully remove each stem from the package. Place the end of the stem under gently running water and cut the end at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife. The reason for this is to maximize the surface area to allow for maximum water absorption. Do not use scissors for this task as they have a tendency to crush the stem which will have an adverse affect and minimize water absorption.

Step 2 – Select the vase the flowers will be displayed in. Thoroughly clean the vase inside and out with bleach. This will kill any harmful germs or bacteria that may have formed in past use.

Step 3 – Fill your vase with luck warm water. Hopefully your florist will have supplied a type of preservative agent with the flowers delivered. Add this preservative to the water in the vase. If you don’t have any preservative on hand simply pop down to your local garden store to obtain some. It’s very inexpensive. The alternative is to make your own. Grab a lemon and mix it with a very small portion of bleach or use some sugar with a very small portion of bleach. Just keep in mind that these home made recipes most probably won’t be as effective as the purchased flower food from your local store.

Step 4 – Remove the leaves from the lower stem before you put the flowers in the vase. The reason for this is because the leaves will rapidly die if left underneath water for long periods of time. The decaying leaf will then infect the water then shorten the life time of the flowers.

Step 5 – Arrange your flower in the vase to how you would like them displayed. If there are too many flowers for the selected vase, don’t try to jam them all in together. Its better to have them loose with a bit of breathing space. I you do have some spares, obtain a second vase to insert the remaining flowers in.

Step 6 – Once you have finished arranging your flowers, it’s important you place them out of direct sunlight. The reason for this is to avoid the flowers from drying quicker than they should and dying prematurely. Room temperature is another important point to consider. Not too hot and not too cold is the secret. In air conditioned rooms, around the 22 degree’s C is ideal. Another interesting fact is that the flower inner cells are damaged in a 4 degree environment or less.

Step 7 – Change the water and flower nutrient every day if possible or at least the very least, every second or third day. It also a good idea to re-cut the ends of the stems as well for a nice fresh surface where water can be absorb effectively again. Well, that’s about it. Simple isn’t it.

These 7 easy steps will significantly prolong the life of any flowers given to you for a gift so you can enjoy that wonderful flower fragrance a lot longer.
