Rototillers are one of the most popular tools for serious gardeners to have to help them in their vegetable garden. This equipment is actually a motorized cultivator which works the soil with the rotating blades or tines. There are several types too, some of which need to be attached to a tractor for cultivating large tracts of land in a farm. For this article, we are going to concentrate on garden rototillers, for the serious home gardener.
Rototillers are especially useful if you are one who uses a garden seeder. Everyone knows that garden seeders need well tilled soil before it can be used, so this is the best thing to have. Without hardpacked soil and the absence of weeds, the seeds will have a better chance at survival and you can really get back your money’s worth if you do it properly.
If you have a small garden, buying a rototiller may not be a good decision to make. You may be better off renting one for the time that you need it. However, if you have a serious tract of land, then maybe you had better think about investing in one or two, depending on how much use you need it for.
Usually the budget of the gardener is one aspect that can dampen the enthusiasm of buying equipment and this can weigh a lot on your decision making later on. If your only option is to buy used tillers, make sure you really do your research as you might just end up wasting money on constant repairs and maintenance. Rototillers are supposed to be maneuverable, so make sure that the weight is something that you can carry. You might get an accident if it is too heavy for you. If it is, don’t buy, just hire someone to do it, in the end, you may just save yourself money from hospital bills if you insist.
If you do end up with a rototiller and you may no longer have use for it as now you have seeded and you are just waiting for your plants to grow, maybe you can just rent it out or have your son have a summer job by getting hired out to help in other people’s gardens. Simply because you don’t need it for the mean time doesn’t mean that it can be a liability.
To find out more about rototillers, motorized or manual, try sitting in front of the computer and start browsing. You will be surprised at price differences in some dealerships. You may end up saving money in the future if you get yourself educated about the rototillers.
