When expecting a new baby, life is very exciting. The sonograms, shopping for baby clothes and picking out names are so much fun. Another great part of having a new baby is designing the nursery. While looking in the baby section one day I found a crib that was not just a crib. It could be converted into a twin size day bed and later into a full size bed. That made me think, “Why not design the whole nursery this way?” Often the first thing thought of when you hear the word nursery is pastels. These colors do not work as well as your child gets older. So, I have another suggestion. What if you were to decorate with something that would last for years?
The nursery is not going to be a nursery forever, so pick a theme that can be easily changed. Try a theme like the night sky. It is easy to do and can be used along with many themes. First paint the walls a dark blue. Then add smoky gray clouds in by ragging (using a wadded up rag to dab) on a medium gray paint in a circular pattern. Add glow in the dark stars and you have a night time sky. How do you make this look nice in a baby’s room? Well it is all about the accessories. For a nursery you should add a bed time theme.
For decor in the nursery to being with, try bears and moon silhouettes. If you are able to find decor for “the cow jumped over the moon,” that would fit the theme wonderfully for their younger age.
Add a great area rug to the theme you choose for your nursery which will protect the carpet but also add softness into the decor. For the night time theme, try choosing a great deep blue rug or even one which has a pattern representing stars or even clouds. Planet area rugs as well would be a great option to consider.
Once your child is in school and is out of the animals and themed rooms in that design try going for a solar system look. You won’t need to do much since the art painting already exists. You can hang pictures of the earth and the entire solar system around the room. You also can purchase new linens which include stars and even earth themed styles.
The teenage stage is usually the pickiest stage. Of course they know what they want no matter what you want to do with the room. Try introducing them into the black light. You can purchase paint which will reflect the awesome colors under this lighting and also great decor to add in their room.
Try creating a room which is versatile with many age groups. This will save you time and money in the long run.
Don’t be ripped off by imitations. Be sure to buy authentic nursery room area rugs directly.
